About the Digital Well Metering System

X Series Flow Computer
The X Series are low power, microprocessor-based units that support a wide range of automated measurement, monitoring, control and alarm applications for remote oil and gas systems. The flow computer is powered by a solar panel and communicates with external data collection devices via an on board cellular phone.

Inline metering devices installed on producing wells collect raw production data, which is then processed by the XFC 6413 flow computer. The flow computer calculates flow data and generates operational records for each log period. Flow rates, volume and coefficients are calculated in compliance with super compressibility standards. Linear flow rates as measured by inline meters are calculated in accordance with AGA 7.

Since a primary function of the XFC is to provide complete volume and operational records, operational limits, minimums and maximums are monitored for "alarm" conditions to ensure that malfunctions or abnormal site conditions are reported. The XFC maintains a history of alarms as well as the average differential pressure (DP), average static pressure (SP), average flowing temperature (Tf), accumulated volume and energy. The event log records calibration, maintenance or alarm events to support auditing tasks. Daily operation statistics such as percent flowing time, percent back flow time and other metrics are also recorded.

Log Period Records
The log period is the specified length of time between writing the calculated accumulated volume to a record. The system is currently configured to start the contract day at 8:00 AM and utilize a 60-minute log period. Volume calculations are completed, following the top of the current period. (i.e., top of the hour, top of the minute). Each record logs average static pressure (SP), average differential pressure (DP), average flow temperature and calculated volume.

For simplicity, only daily production values are reported through the Investor Center. However, for auditing purposes, the complete data set described above is collected daily and archived in the long-term databases held at the American Energy corporate offices.
